Let's talk about some natural antibiotics and where to find them...

Recently at various festivals I've had some very engaging conversations with people in regards to holistic medicine and natural ways of imbibing healthy foods or tonics. I thought I might share with you some of natures amazing antibiotics and casually draw a not so subtle link to all of my wonderful products that contain these in a tasty, healthy product for you to purchase and consume and maintain your health!*

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has antibiotic, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties that can be attributed to both its high malic acid content and the good bacteria it obtains through the fermentation process. These combined help to naturally alkalize your body, helping to combat heartburn, manage weight and lower cholesterol. Also used topically as a sterilizer and disinfectant this seems such a waste when it makes a delicious base for a salad vinaigrette or maybe something like a well rounded hot chilli sauce, though I've no idea where you would find....oh wait.... yes, apple cider vingear does appear first on the ingredient list for Shadow Tribe, our roasted red pepper hot sauce. Who knew?

Garlic

You must have heard how good garlic is for its powerful healing properties, as the allicin in it protects against yeast, parasites, bacteria, Candida, and more. Allicin is one of the active principles in freshly crushed garlic homogenates, which has a variety of antimicrobial activities. Look at this amazing list of benefits -

  • Garlic has antibacterial, anti-fungal, and even antiviral qualities.
  • It promotes the growth of healthy intestinal microflora by acting as a prebiotic (food for probiotics).
  • Garlic helps keep fats from oxidizing.
  • Garlic acts as a strong antioxidant and guards against DNA damage.
  • It also protects against radiation & sunlight damage.
  • Garlic can help to fight against worms and parasites.
  • It aids with digestion.
  • It contains many nutrients such as vitamins (C, B1, B2, B3), minerals (calcium, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc, and phytochemicals (Allicin, beta-carotene, beta-sitosterol, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, diallyl-disulfide, ferulic acid, geraniol, kaempferol, linalool, oleanolic acid, p-coumaric acid, phloroglucinol, phytic acid, quercetin, rutin, s-allyl-cysteine, saponin, sinapic acid, & stigmasterol).

The phytochemical allicin in garlic is so powerful that it is one of the best natural antibiotics effective against MRSA.

Now, where can you find garlic in a range of amazingly tasty products???? Hmm, let me think on that one for a while.

Ginger

Ginger is a natural antibiotic and anti-bacterial. It’s also used for other medicinal purposes such as curing colds, nausea, asthma, colic, heart palpitations, swelling, and stomach aches. You can read more about ginger’s powerful medicinal properties in this study here.

Turmeric

Curcumin, the bioactive substance found in turmeric, has both antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Turmeric has been gaining in popularity lately, particularly due to its medicinal properties as an anti-inflammatory. What’s more, turmeric has been scientifically proven as an effective counteractive agent against cancer, auto-immune disease, inflammatory disease, and much more. Read through any number of research papers here.

Chillies!

Indeed, chillies themselves are well known for their good antibacterial  properties. Check this paper out.

Now, what contains chillies, turmeric, ginger, garlic and apple cider vinegar???

 *maybe.
